Fish oil Review Article
The major active ingredients of fish oil are two essential polyunsaturated so-called omega-3 fatty acids: EPA (eicosapentaenic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenic acid), which cannot be produced by the human organism. Alpha-linolenic acid can be converted to EPA and DHA in the body, but the conversion is quite inefficient especially in older people. The administration of these polyunsaturated fatty acids as treatment courses lowers blood lipid and cholesterol levels, improves the rheological properties of the blood and exerts a favorable effect on blood coagulation process.
Fish oils (EPA and DHA) play a crucial role in the prevention of atherosclerosis, heart attack, depression, and cancer.
Recognizing the unique benefits of EPA and DHA and the serious consequences of a deficiency the US National Institutes of Health recently published Recommended Daily Intakes of fatty acids. They recommend a total daily intake of 650 mg of EPA and DHA, 2.22 g/day of alpha-linolenic acid and 4.44 g/day of linoleic acid. Saturated fat intake should not exceed 8 per cent of total calorie intake or about 18 g/day.

Fish Oil Notes:
Good Fish oil consists of two important omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids - EPA (eicosapentaenic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenic acid) that is used for lowering the production of triglycerides in the body. Fish Oil is oil extracted from oil fish like mackerel, herring, tuna, halibut, salmon, cod liver, whale blubber, or seal blubber. Taking Fish Oil controls cholesterol level and blood lipid levels thus reducing the risk of occurrence of heart attacks. Fish Oil keeps people healthy free from heart disease and heart attacks. Body Fish Oil is also prescribed to avoid premature atherosclerosis and to prevent thrombosis, restore normal coagulation after thrombosis and prevent stroke. Fish Oil may also help people suffering from high blood pressure, Rheumatoid arthritis, Asthma, Bipolar Disorder, Cancer, Dysmenorrhea, Eczema, Dementia, Preeclampsia, Psoriasis, Schizophrenia, Ulcerative Colitis and Diabetes.
One may experience negative Fish Oil effects while taking Fish Oil supplements. Some of the side effects that have been noticed due to usage of Fish Oil include stomach upset, bad breath, belching, unusual taste in the mouth, heartburn, nausea, skin rash and bleeding from nose. Fish Oil supplements if taken along with meals or taken after freezing them can lessen the negative effects. Taking high doses of Fish Oil can be serious affecting body’s immunity levels, slowing blood clotting and increasing the chances of bleeding, raising bad cholesterol – LDL levels.
Your physician would give you prescription Fish Oil of 1 or 2 capsules to be taken three times daily and should be taken for at least two to three months of treatment plan. One should conduct tests after completing the treatment and depending on the results of test Fish Oil treatment should be continued. US National Institutes of Health recommends total daily intake of Fish Oil mg - 650 mg of EPA and DHA, 2.22 g/day of alpha-linolenic acid and 4.44 g/day of linoleic acid.
Omega-3 fatty acid levels related to antiaging
According to the researchers from University of California, San Francisco, higher levels of omega-3 fatty acid in blood is related to shortening of telomere length, a chromosome marker of biological aging.
Increased dietary intake of omega 3 fatty acids(docosahexaenoic acid, DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA) is associated with prolonged survival in patients with coronary heart disease. However, the mechanisms for this protective effect are not fully understood. Telomeres are structures at the end of a chromosome involved in the replication and stability of the chromosome. Genetic factors and environmental stress can shorten the length of the telomere which is the marker of biological age.
In the study, 608 outpatients with stable coronary artery disease were recruited from the Heart and Soul Study between September 2000 and December 2002 and followed till January 2009. Difference in Leukocyte telomere length was found at the beginning of the study and after 5 years of follow up using multivariable models. It was found that individuals in the lowest quartile of DHA+EPA experienced most rapid rate of telomere shortening, whereas those in the highest quartile experienced the slowest rate of telomere shortening. Each standard deviation increase in DHA+EPA levels was associated with a 32 percent reduction in the odds of telomere shortening.
This clearly indicates that there is inverse relationship between blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids and the rate of telomere shortening.
Anti aging supplement helpful for skin – A report:
Latest reports have showed that Vitamin B12 can be useful as an anti aging supplement especially in women to boost body and skin. This vitamin is generally missing in lot of women’s diet specifically those who are vegetarian.
Vitamin B12 is found in abundance in complex proteins (mostly red meat), but women taking purely vegetarian diet suffers from its deficiency. So in that case this anti aging supplement can be used as it helps the white and red blood cells to renew themselves there by regulating the proper blood flow in entire body. This results in glowing of skin and it also helps to fight against blemishes as it increases the immune power. Fish oil also serves as good anti aging supplement.
Fish oil contains omega-3 which is a fatty acid that he body requires for maintaining cells life and to enhance the immune system. This also helps to improve memory which again restricts aging. Anti aging human growth hormone is an alternate method for rapid results to suppress aging. With increase in age the growth hormone is lost resulting in decline of bones and skin development. Such anti aging growth hormone helps in keeping skin firm and wrinkle free.
Anti aging effect of omega-3 fatty acids – Latest study
According to the previous reports related to natural products, omega-3s the fatty acids found in cold water fish like salmon provides the benefits of suppressing depression and prevention of blindness due to aging. It also helps to protect patients against prostate cancer. Now the latest studies have revealed its benefits to fight against anti aging.
The tail structure of chromosomes called as telomeres are said to be involved in stability and replication of chromosomes which are markers of biological aging. Due to the exposure to certain harmful chemicals and environmental factors the length of telomeres gets reduced indicating the process of aging. The study presented in Journal of the American Medical Association explains that omega-3s slows down the shortening of telomeres suggesting that it may give resistance against aging.
Initially patients with cardiovascular disease taking high dietary intake of marine omega-3s survive for a longer time as compared to patients not taking enough omega-3s diet. The latest study was conducted on 608 patients for 5 years to check the association between the shortening of telomeres and intake of omega-3 fatty acids. The researchers found that the subjects with least amount of omega-3s shows the shortening of telomeres at rapid rate while those on high omega-3s diet shows slowest rate of telomere shortening.
Nutritional supplement against aging
In the recent developments, scientists at the Bristol Corporation research development centre believe that mirugai product is having very high potential to fight against aging and in increasing longevity. Mirugai in combination with omega-3 fatty acids found in wild salmon off the Canadian Pacific shores provides benefits against aging.
This product derives anti aging properties from geoduck which is having a life expectancy of about 146 years to 160 years. The clinical trials confirming longevity for this product are in process, still scientists are recommending it for anti aging, longevity and prolonged existence. The product is currently available in the market and it has the potential to change and improve lives.
Geoducks are excellent source of proteins, vitamin B12, iron and selenium. It also provides vitamin C and riboflavin. The daily usage of this product can help people to keep themselves young and healthy. It is also believe that prolonged usage of the product reduces life threatening cardiovascular diseases.
