Mumijo (mumio) Review Article

MUMIjO is a 100% natural product, although it consists of more than 50 elements. It originates from plant and animal sources. It could be described as a concentration of beeswax, fossilized honey, and bees' nests, which seeps over long periods of time through certain rocks, under the influence of spring water, emerging as a resin type substance. MUMIO tablets are an extract from natural MUMIO grown on the high of Altay mountains and processed using modern equipment and the latest scientific research. It maintains physical and mental efficiency and thus prolongs life span. It is a weapon against illnesses. One of the most important functions of MUMIO is immuno-stimulating. MUMIO can help in getting rid of poisons and toxic substances inside the body. It can act as a painkiller in reducing the symptoms of toothache, burns and allergic reactions, as well as in cases of bone fracture.

Mumijo (mumio, mumiyo): A Russian gift from nature

Mumijo is a solid mass, which is dark brown or black, with a shiny surface and bitter taste.

There are about 28 chemical elements, 30 macro and micronutrients, as well as 10 different metal oxides, 6 amino acids, including zoomelanoidion, a number of vitamins, essential oils, resins and retinoid agents in Mumiyo. Also there is bee venom, humic substances and other matter, which is not investigated yet. In addition, the inorganic part comprises about 30 rare trace elements: rubidium, cesium, barium, strontium, tin, chromium, antimony.

Spectrum of pharmacological action of mummy is very wide. Most often it is used to treat fractures as it increases mineral metabolism and accelerates the healing of bone fractures and wounds due to regenerative properties and early formation of callus. At the same time, it improves the general condition, appetite and sleep.

It promotes scarring stomach ulcers and duodenum. Cures gastritis with high and low acidity, colitis, improves liver function in hepatitis and cirrhosis, stimulates hematopoiesis, the function of the adrenal cortex, intestine, increasing the body's immune resistance.

The substance is effective in treating skin diseases, especially eczema and is also used as a tonic, successfully replacing vitamins.

Mumio has moderate antitumor activity, can partially preserve the processes of cancer. A unique bacterial composition provides antitoxic, tonic, anti-inflammatory effect and in some cases is preferable to antibiotics.

Mumiyo is recommended for postoperative rehabilitation. Also it heals burns and ulcers, is recommended for depression, degeneration, impotence. Favorably affects the body in bronchial asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia.

It doesn’t cause benign nor malignant transformation of tissues. With a constant injection into the body it does not cause side effects and is also safe for the treatment of chronic inflammatory processes.

Its cosmetic effect is well-known. This natural drug improves skin tone, smooths wrinkles and protects skin from the side effects of the environment, restore the deficiency of micro and macro-elements in the tissues, stimulates skin regeneration processes, that’s why it’s included in the drugs that reduce and eliminate scars (this also applies to stretch marks).

Mummy has no side effects, except in cases of individual intolerance or use in excessive doses. It’s not allowed to drink alcohol while Mumio treatment.

Mumio can be found on the rocky slopes of the mountains in the form of frozen water stains. According to different theories, it’s either particles of oil settled on a rock, or fossilized feces of ancient animals and insects, or the waste products of rodents and birds. Chemical studies confirm various hypotheses.

Medical properties of Mymio depend on the natural environment in which it arises. The best remedy is collected in the mountains, where the richer and more diverse set of minerals and herbs can be found. Mumio’s quality depends on the processing time and method of cleaning raw material from impurities. Its age is of a great importance: the older it is, the better. Finally, the crucial point is Mumio processing, which depends exclusively on the knowledge and care of scientists. Mumio with proper treatment can save the entire range of useful properties, and if not properly treated - drastically reduce its usefulness.

Mumio is not a panacea for all the diseases. Nevertheless, modern science has proved that it has a wide range of biological action such as bactericidal, anti-inflammatory, tonic and anti-stress. Moreover, Mumio stimulates the activity of many enzyme systems of the body and supports a variety of immunological processes.

Clinical trials

Currently, there are many studies on the use of Mumio in the treatment of medical, surgical and other conditions. The research was conducted, involving more than 4,000 patients with diagnoses such as lumbago, fractures, sores, burns, stomach ulcer.

T. Abdurakhmanov and a group of his colleagues in 1970 conducted a study in which the mummy was used for the treatment of deep vein thrombophlebitis . It is noteworthy that in the course of treatment other drugs were not used. The course of treatment was 10 days. Each day, patients received mummy in an amount of 0.3 g once a day (Abdurakhmanov, 1970).

On the third day of the study such phenomena as the disappearance of swelling and pain, feeling better were observed. By 8-10 day almost all patients showed a decrease in skin temperature of affected areas to normal levels, as well as the disappearance of the main symptoms of the disease. All patients reported that their general condition has improved considerably.

In the same year, T. Abdurakhmanov and other published work on the properties of mummy studies in the treatment of chronic colitis. During this treatment, a thick extract of a substance at 200 mg once daily for 10 days was applied. Most of the patients showed the disappearance of major symptoms, ranging from 4-5 days of treatment, the remaining similar effect was observed by the end of the course (Abdurakhmanov, 1970).

V. Ismailova in 1964 conducted a study on the effectiveness of the drug in the treatment of fractures and various injuries. Her patients were 52 children, aged 2 to 16 years. Patients were taking mummy inside, 2-3 times per day before meals. The dosage for children under 5 years was 0.1-0.2 g, for children 5-10 years - 0.2-0.4 g, for children 10-15 years - 0.4-0.5, the drug had positive impact on the dynamics of accretion of bone fractures, and improved ability to regenerate tissue (Ismailova, 1964).

Another study, conducted in 1969, included 20 patients with various gynecological diseases. During treatment, 4% solution of a standard dry Mumiyo was applied. After another 3-4 days the wound was completely cleaned. 5-6 day started the formation of the epithelium, and the total delay in the wound was observed in all patients by the end of 2-3 weeks of treatment. In total, for the treatment of these diseases require from 6 to 10 treatments (Shamshina, 1969).

Thus, we conclude that the range of mummies for therapeutic purposes is exceptionally wide. This is confirmed by numerous clinical studies. Currently, the mummy is used in the treatment of many diseases, and is very effective (Nadkarni, 1982).
